Programme Description

What does this team do?

Financial Risk is split into four teams:

Credit, Capital and Structuring: (1) supporting banks and building societies in navigating prudential risk requirements (such as Basel 3.1), supporting regulatory change programmes, undertaking regulatory reviews of firms’ compliance and supporting firms’ in-house internal audit teams on a co-source basis; and (2) banking and insurance legal entity optimisation including submission of banking licences; and (3) banking and investment management transactions.

Front Office, Treasury & Reporting
: We help to address a range of challenges, from strengthening risk management and governance frameworks to optimising operational models for greater efficiency and regulatory compliance. This includes collaborating with clients to implement robust Funds Transfer Pricing mechanisms, addressing evolving credit risk regulations, and streamlining liquidity and capital reporting processes. We also support firms in navigating regulatory changes and commercial demands, focusing on key areas such as operational continuity, booking models, and trading controls.

Credit Risk Management:
We specialise in quantifying financial risks and improving risk management more generally across all types of financial institutions and geographies. While the team largely focuses on credit risk, we have significant depth across financial, non-financial and operational risks, including climate-related financial risk.

Traded & Quantitative Risk: We focus on risk and capital modelling for traded risk (market risk & counterparty credit risk) at investment banks, commercial banks and capital markets firms. We also assist firms in development, review of model design and implementation, extensions and remediation, regulatory waiver applications, and analysing the impact of new and upcoming regulation on regulatory capital.

What skills and academic qualifications do I need?

You’re

At Deloitte, and especially in Financial Risk, our people are our biggest resource.

We understand that this experience is for you to learn, which is why we do not expect prior work experience or have any additional academic requirements for this role. We are here to provide guidance, support, and development opportunities!

For Traded & Quantitative Risk: Obtained or studying towards a 2:1 or above in a Mathematics, Economics, Finance or Quantitative Finance related degree discipline.

What kind of work will I do?

Working in Financial Risk you will gain exposure across the risk and regulatory landscape, including Credit, Liquidity, Market, Counterparty, Model and Climate risk, as well as capital management and structural reform activities. As we engage with clients directly in projects, from implementing large-scale risk management and modelling frameworks across the financial risk lifecycle to developing strategic legal restructuring programmes, you will be able to gain invaluable client-facing experience every day while also being able to work on a wide range of different topics.

Our clients range from top-tier financial institutions, from global and boutique banks to insurers and investment managers, therefore you will also be able to build your own international network of Deloitte colleagues and clients. We have key projects based in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, and various other countries across Europe, where we also advise for, and work together with, the Deloitte member firms based there. We also have a growing portfolio of solutions and managed services that harness artificial intelligence, robotics, and digitization to do more for less, and more accurately, meaning that you will be able to get involved with our most innovative propositions and experience first-hand how Deloitte is at the forefront of change in the financial risk.

What’s in it for me?

Joining this programme, you will be joining alongside a large cohort of like-minded colleagues. At the start of your role you will be part of an induction programme where you will learn a multitude of skills to help you become ready and feel confident working with our clients. You will also receive continued professional development support via your project team, mentoring and your buddy who will be assigned to you.

How will I develop?

An important part of your personal development is ensuring you take advantage of the opportunities offered at Deloitte to enhance both your technical and soft skills. For Graduates, this may include internal courses covering a variety of subjects such as an introduction to banking and capital management and improving presentation skills, as well as formal credentials such as the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) or Financial Risk Management (FRM) qualifications. You will be provided support throughout the Graduate programme and will be allocated your own personal Buddy and Coach. For SVS joiners, you will also be offered continuous support throughout your placement and will be assigned your own personal Buddy and Line Manager, who will assist you in your development and training and answer any questions you may have over the course of your time with us.
